Theis believes in creating a safe, non-judgemental environment for his work with clients. He believes it is important for the therapist to try to be 100 % present with the client; whatever they are going through or have gone through and for the client to feel safe, validated and authentically listened to, in that space. His approach is to work in a collaborative and gradual manner, moving at a pace that feels safe for the client.

Theis believes it is important to tailor the therapy used in sessions to the particular issues faced by the client, balancing this with the client’s preference. His goal is that he and the client co-create the session and jointly decide the therapeutic direction going forth.

He has a strong interest in Third Wave Psychotherapies and working with complex childhood trauma. He has completed training with the Blue Knot Foundation, a trauma focused organization to help inform his clinical practice. Theis also has extensive experience working in a number of Government services with Adults with psychosis, intellectual disability, OCD and self-harming behaviours.
