How long do sessions go for?

Standard therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. If a different duration is needed, this can be discussed with your therapist in advance.

What is the cancellation policy?

We require that clients cancel their appointment with more than 48 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee. Our cancellation policy is 50% of the session fee for 24-48 hours notice and 100% of the session fee for less than 24 hours. This cancellation fee is consistent with national recommendations by the AMA and APS. Flexibility is provided in significant circumstances.

How can I pay for my session?

We accept payment via EFTPOS, credit card, or bank transfer. Payment is required at the time of your session unless otherwise arranged.

Can I get a rebate through Medicare or private health?

Yes, our services are eligible for rebates:

  • With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you can claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per year.
  • Private health insurance rebates may also apply, depending on your insurer and policy. Please check with your provider for details.

What is a clinical psychologist?

Clinical psychologists are mental health experts specialising in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological and mental health issues. They work with adults, children, and teenagers, and are trained to provide a range of evidence-based therapies. Clinical psychologists use psychological theory and research to offer tailored interventions for each client.

A clinical psychologist has completed at least six years of full-time university training in psychology, exceeding the training of other mental health professionals, including general psychologists and counsellors. At a minimum, The Clinical Psychologists at IHL have attained a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, in addition to ongoing professional development and skills training. They are highly qualified and experienced healthcare providers, demonstrating expertise in treating a wide variety of mental health concerns. They also work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, such as General Practitioners (GPs), to ensure clients receive optimal care.
