Elizabeth has a genuine, and warm approach to therapy and places a strong emphasis on creating a safe and comfortable environment and a strong and positive client-therapist engagement. She takes a client centered approach, and recognises that each individual has unique needs and preferences and so a flexible style is necessary to create a space which will allow for positive change to take place.

Elizabeth uses a variety of evidence based therapy styles, including Cognitive Behaviour therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Dialectical behaviour therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mentalisation Based Therapy.

Elizabeth works with children, families, adolescents and adults. She accepts referrals for:

  • Depression and other mood disorders
  • Panic and anxiety disorders
  • Difficulties with emotion regulation
  • Interpersonal and relationship difficulties
  • Self harm, addiction
  • Substance misuse
  • Borderline Personality disorder
  • Psychosis
  • Stress
  • Challenges with life transitions, workplace and life events,
  • Self esteem
  • Mother infant issues
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and complex trauma.

Elizabeth works to help her clients build practical skills to cope, challenge themselves and change disruptive patterns, while exploring deeper thoughts, feelings and experiences that are getting in the way of living the life they want. Elizabeth enjoys working collaboratively with clients to build an understanding of where difficulties have come from, and how to make changes to behaviours, thought processes and relationships to create shifts. Change can be daunting for everyone but Elizabeth is careful to move towards the clients’ own goals, at their pace, while encouraging and building confidence in their own ability to create and maintain shifts outside of the therapy rooms.

Elizabeth has extensive experience with adults, adolescents, children and young families across a number of public health settings and non-government organisations in Australia and the United Kingdom. She has worked on specialist pilot programs in Australia targeting emerging mental health, addiction, and personality disorders. She has gained broad reaching experience as a locum Clinical psychologist in the UK National Health Service (NHS), the Education System and family support services in London.

Elizabeth has contributed to the development and evaluation of psychological services and treatment programs for community mental health services. She has provided training in Motivational Interviewing and Engaging clients in therapy, which is a professional passion of hers. She completed her Doctoral thesis on the topic of ‘Therapeutic Alliance in a dual diagnosis population’ due to her belief in the importance of successfully helping clients to feel positively aligned with their therapist, engaged and correctly heard in the therapy process.
